October is the time to be PINK

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in many countries around the world, often symbolized by the color pink. While you have probably seen the following statistics*, which may not have much “shock” value anymore, these numbers are still real, relevant, and personal to many:

  • Breast cancer is the #1 leading cause of cancer death in women globally (#2 in the United States)
  • 520,000 people in the world die from breast cancer each year
  • 1 in 8 women in the United States, or 12%, will develop breast cancer over the course of a lifetime

Bottom-line: Breast cancer is not cured yet. It’s an ongoing battle and we can all make an impact.

On the most basic level, we can all commit to learning more about breast cancer’s causes, prevention strategies, and treatment options. Participating in fundraising activities to support breast cancer research is of course a great way to contribute.

If you plan on initiating your own fund-raising campaign, get your web site on the .PINK domain – pink is almost synonymous with breast cancer awareness this time of the year. You can help raise awareness and funds – beginning with your web site URL!
